Seller Application

Become a Seller at The Real Herb Market

We vet our sellers to ensure they meet our standards for good herbal preparations and supplies. We do not inspect every product our sellers sell, but rather we require a sample of their work when they go through our initial interviewing process. We take the time to get to know each of our sellers so our customers can buy with confidence, knowing we’ve narrowed the field to just those herbalists who know what they’re doing at least in terms of the products they’re selling. It’s a practical approach to buying herbal products.

When you apply to be a seller, here’s what we expect:

You have either some formal training in herbalism as relates to the products you intend to sell or you have a minimum of five years of experience making and sharing or selling the products you intend to sell.

You can give us at least three professional references (not related to you) who can vouch for your skills in making the products you intend to sell. These can include teachers, customers, and others who have benefitted from using your products. You make your products yourself with or without a small team to assist you. We’re looking for Artisans and Herbalists who create their goods by hand and sell them directly to customers. We will not accept resellers, manufacturers, white-label sellers, or large-scale makers as sellers on our site.

You know and understand the laws pertaining to the creation and sale of any products you make in your locality, including your city, state, and federal government’s laws pertaining to your work, and you adhere to those laws. We will not be held responsible for legalities as relates to the creation or sale of your products in any way. We expect your products and ingredients are legal to sell within the United States of America and its territories. They are labeled as needed for sale within the United States of America and its territories and will be shipped to customers in whatever way is appropriate. You have agreed to our Terms of Service and to our Sellers Terms of Service.

If you’d like to apply to become a seller, here’s what you’ll need:

Your Creds (or that of your Primary Herbalist): Resume, CV, or other Listing of your work, experience, and training as relates to the products you’d like to sell through our marketplace.

References: We’ll want the names and contact information for three adults who are not related to you and can vouch for your skills as an herbalist or maker. We will be asking them to confirm that they’ve had a positive experience with you and the products you intend to sell, a short description of their experience with you, and a quotable positive review (testimonial) we can use in future for marketing purposes. You can use teachers, colleagues, customers, supervisors, or others who have experience with you and the products you make.

A Sample of Your Work: We suggest you ship your sample to us as if we are a customer, as we will film an unboxing video as part of our review of your application. If you are accepted as a seller for us, we will use the unboxing video we created using your sample in future marketing.

Information on your business:

  • A Headshot of you (and your Primary Herbalist if that’s not you);
  • A short Bio for you; (and your Primary Herbalist if that’s not you);
  • The Name of your business and associated logo or imagery you intend to use to identify your business visually;
  • Your business story (300 words or fewer);

The Application Process

We vet our sellers to ensure they meet our standards for good herbal preparations and supplies. We do not inspect every product our sellers sell, but rather we require a sample of their work when they go through our initial interviewing process. We take the time to get to know each of our sellers so our customers can buy with confidence, knowing we’ve narrowed the field to just those herbalists who know what they’re doing at least in terms of the products they’re selling. It’s a practical approach to buying herbal products.

Secondly, after we’ve accepted your electronic application, we’ll send instructions for submitting your sample to us. We will expect you to ship your sample to us within two business days of our acceptance (much as you would ship a customer’s order). We will film an unboxing video, evaluate your sample to ensure it meets our basic requirements, and approve or reject your request to become a seller on our site. Expect to hear back from us within 5 business days of receipt of delivery (receipt of delivery as recorded through the tracking system of the shipping company you used).

After we have evaluated your sample, we will email you to either invite you to become a seller with The Real Herb Marketplace or an explanation of why we did not accept you. If you have been accepted, we will schedule time with you to record your 10-minute Herbalist Spotlight video and offer you our suggestions for the next steps you should take toward a successful launch of your shop on The Real Marketplace. We expect to see your shop up and running within a couple of weeks or so from acceptance. We’ll coordinate our marketing with you to help you toward that successful launch.

Once you’ve become a seller, we’ll expect you to remain actively selling to hold your spot. Sellers who allow all of their listings to expire and thus are not actively selling through us for a period of six months will be automatically suspended and will need to request re-activation of their seller account with us before they can resume selling. Suspended accounts will be deleted permanently after a period of 1 year and 1 day, or 366 days, from the day on which the account was suspended. After a seller account has been deleted, the seller must re-apply to begin selling again.

Review all the information required for the form. Then collect what you need to complete the form. There is no way to save your progress so you cannot come back to it later.
